Quick & efficient stairlift repairs

Worried about your stairlift? Our friendly team is here to keep it working smoothly and safely, right when you need it.

Our first-class stairlift engineers have got you covered for stairlift troubleshooting and repairs, day or night. We are always available to help with a faulty or malfunctioning stairlift, whether we supplied and installed it or not. We cover the full West and South West of England and we treat every repair call as a priority.

Although a regularly serviced stairlift shouldn’t break down unexpectedly, just like with any machine, faults can occur due to wear and tear or accidental damage. If you can tell us what your stairlift is doing, or not doing, we’ll try to help over the phone first. Sometimes that’s all it takes. When it isn’t, we’ll book you a visit and come out fully equipped to fix it in one go.

We repair any brand of stairlift

You don’t have to go back to the original manufacturer or installer when your stairlift breaks down.

We repair all makes and models, regardless of who supplied or installed them. That includes Acorn, Stannah, Handicare, Brooks, Thyssen, and others.

Most stairlifts share similar mechanical principles, and our engineers know how all of them work. We carry common parts and diagnostic equipment as standard, so we can usually sort the problem on the first visit.

Diagnosing & fixing faulty stairlifts

Most stairlifts work on similar principles, so no matter the make or model, we’re equipped to repair it for you.

Batteries are the most common cause of a stairlift stopping unexpectedly. If the chair wasn’t left parked on the charging strip, the batteries may simply have run flat. Batteries also degrade over time and typically need replacing every three to five years.

Safety sensor faults are the next most frequent issue. Stairlifts are built to stop if anything is detected on the track, such as a bag left on the stairs, a door that’s slightly open, or something resting on the footrest sensor. This is the stairlift doing exactly what it’s designed to do. Other common faults include motor problems, track misalignment, an unresponsive remote control, and error codes triggered by the lift’s built-in diagnostics.

If your stairlift has stopped and you want to work through the basics before calling, our stairlift troubleshooting guide covers the most common error codes and what they mean. If you’re still stuck, call us on 01666 822 060.

We diagnose the problem and advise you on the best solution to get you moving again

What to expect when you call us

When you ring our helpline, we’ll ask a few quick questions about what the stairlift is doing, and we’ll try to talk you through the fault there and then. A lot of issues can be easily resolved over the phone.

If a visit is needed, we’ll book you for a priority stairlift repair visit to diagnose and fix the problem. Most repairs are done in a single visit. We won’t leave without either fixing the fault or giving you a clear explanation of what’s needed and what it will cost.

Before we go, we’ll run the stairlift through a full cycle, confirm it’s working properly, and walk you through anything that will help prevent the same problem coming back.

Whatever the reason for your stairlift malfunction, our skilled engineers will have your stairlift working again quickly and reliably so you can feel secure in your home.

Regular stairlift maintenance

To avoid unexpected repairs, regular stairlift servicing is key to keeping it in tip-top shape, ensuring peace of mind.

We recommend an annual service for any stairlift, regardless of age or brand. It typically takes under two hours and covers the track, carriage, motor, batteries, safety sensors, and charging circuit. If anything needs attention, we’ll tell you and can usually deal with it on the same visit.

In the meantime, a few simple habits help. Keep the track clear, as shoes, bags, and toys left on the stairs are one of the most common causes of sensor faults. Check that your batteries are charging properly by making sure the chair is parked on the charging strip when not in use.

And if something feels wrong, call us rather than waiting. Small faults are almost always cheaper and quicker to fix than big ones.

In addition to Stairlift Repairs we also offer Stairlift Installation, Stairlift Servicing and Stairlift Removal & Buyback.

Frequently asked questions

Can you repair a stairlift you didn’t install?

Yes. We repair all makes and models regardless of who supplied or installed them. That includes Acorn, Stannah, Handicare, Brooks, and many others. Most stairlifts work on similar mechanical principles, so our engineers can diagnose and fix faults across all brands, usually in a single visit.

Our 24-hour helpline on 01666 822 060 is available day and night, including weekends. In most cases we can arrange a same-day or next-day visit. If we can talk you through the fault over the phone, we will. If not, we’ll book you a priority call-out as quickly as possible.

The cost depends on what’s wrong. Simpler faults such as battery replacement or sensor issues are at the lower end of the scale. More involved work, motor faults, gearbox problems, or track alignment will cost more. We’ll always give you a clear price before any work begins.

The most common issues we see are flat or failing batteries, safety sensor faults triggered by obstructions on the track, unresponsive remote controls, the carriage jerking or stalling mid-run, and error codes from the stairlift’s built-in diagnostic system. Most are straightforward to fix once correctly diagnosed.

For most faults, repair is the right answer. It’s quicker, cheaper, and far less disruptive than a full replacement. Replacement usually only makes sense when a stairlift is over fifteen years old, has broken down repeatedly, or the repair cost is close to the price of a reconditioned alternative. We’ll always give you an honest view. See our stairlift repairs vs replacement guide for more detail.

Yes. Stannah is one of the most common brands we work on. You don’t need to go back to Stannah for repairs, we can diagnose and fix Stannah stairlifts across all models, and we can often get to you faster and at a lower cost than the manufacturer’s own service team.

Yes. Acorn is another brand we regularly work on across the South West. Whether your Acorn stairlift has stopped mid-run, is showing an error code, or isn’t responding to the remote, we can diagnose and repair it, regardless of who originally installed it.

We install, repair and service stairlifts across the West and South West of England, including Wiltshire, Gloucester, Somerset, Oxfordshire, Bristol, Bath, and more. Call 01666 822 060 to confirm we cover your area.
