Initial cost to buy a stairlift
The cost of a stairlift depends on a number of factors.
- The shape of your staircase. Have you got straight staircase or does it incorporate half landings and quarter landings? A stairlift for a straight staircase is cheaper to install, requiring less adaptation, often using staight ‘off-the-shelf’ units.
- The installation process required.
- The technology required. There are stirlifts available with powered swivel or alternatively manual swivel.
- The shape of the bottom of the staircase. Do you have an open staircase at the bottom of the stairs or will it block a doorway?
- New versus reconditioned. We offer reconditioned stairlifts and rental, which can be a cheaper option.
New straight stairlifts cost between £1750 and £2750. Reconditioned stairlifts cost between £1000 and £2000. Curved stairlifts are a lot more complex. The rail is purpose built around your particular staircase. The cost will be driven by the complexity of design; things like the number of bends, the length of track needed, additional park points, reverse drive lifts, two way powered swivels, and so on.
As a guide a new curved stairlift would start from £4000. Reconditioned curved stairlifts from £3250.

How often is a service is needed for my stairlift?
We advise a service each year, as per the British Safety Standards.
If the lift is installed in a public building or has heavy use, you may need to have it serviced every 6 months.
Repair costs?
Repair costs consist of a call-out charge and then the actual cost of repair.
Within office hours (8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday) Simply charge £95.00. For times outside of this Simply charge £125.
The call-out charge covers the first 45 minutes of work.
Once diagnosed you may need replacement parts.
To help keep costs to a minimum Simply offer a phone diagnosis service. Often if only a minor issue, a quick phone call can solve the issue at low cost.
How often is a stairlift repair needed?
This all depends on the ‘preventive maintenance’, i.e. regular servicing.
If you get your lift serviced as recommended repairs can be kept to a minimum.
How long is a stairlift likely to last?
We would say an average of 10-12 years, again subject to regular servicing.
The battery will last an estimated 3-5 years.
Other stairlift considerations?
Electricity is a cost to consider, although stairlifts now run on batteries and are trickle charged when not used to keep your electricity bills to a minimum.
